. A. H. HUNTER retired Commander in the Royal Navy is well known by name to millions of newspaper readers and to readers of Recreational Mathematics Magazine and other periodicals.
During his years of active service Hunter developed an absorbing interest in mathematics. After World War II he spent several years with the Occupation organization in Germany and during this period supplied occasional simple teasers for an Occupation Forces publication. In 1952 Hunter now living in Canada began producing five teasers weekly for the Toronto Globe & Mail a feature which soon gained world-wide syndication.
